4. I heard that only old books published before 1923 are in the public domain. There are books here published in the ’50′s and ’60′s. How could they possibly be in the public domain?

=================================

Good question!

Most people that know anything about the public domain at all will tell you that anything published in the U.S. before 1923 is now without copyright protection…and this is true!

But…what many information publishers and other entreprenuers would rather keep a close guarded secret they don’t want you to know is that any book published in the U.S. between 1923 and 1963 is in the public domain as long as a copyright renewal was not made in the 28th year after the book was originally published.

All of the books provideded here are in the public domain precisely because the copyright holder of each respective title failed to apply for copyright renewal as enforced by U.S. Copyright law and subsequently, the copyright protection on these books was allowed to expire.

I talk about this in great detail in my article, “The Stealth Content Secret” – see this article for more information.

5. How do you source these public domain books you provide?

=================================

Research, research, and more research. My team and myself are constantly trolling used book portals, ebay, and other sources of used books. When we spot a book on a topic of interest, my team purchases the book, performs the required copyright research to make sure the book is in the public domain, then converts the book into digital format (Microsoft Word), and makes it available as a purchasable download here at Best Public Domain Books.

================================

6. What does it cost to source a public domain book if I choose to find my own books instead of taking advantage of yours?

================================

If you’ve been sourcing and scanning Public Domain books on your own, you have an idea of how the expenses can rack up pretty fast unless you’re doing all of the work by yourself (which is super time consuming!).

On average, here’s a breakdown of the expenses you can expect per book if you are outsourcing everything…

Sourcing a Book: $10.00

This is a very conservative figure based on the low-end. Some more obscure books may cost you considerably more. This figure also may or may not include shipping and handling fees to have the book shipped to you if you order from a used book dealer site like our favorite, Abebooks.com.

Performing Copyright Research: $85.00

This is exactly what my preferred Attorney, Hynak & Associates in Arlington, VA charges to research the copyright status of a single book ~ and he’s pretty cheap compared to some other agencies we’ve worked with!

Having The Book Scanned: $77.00

At the time I am writing this, Timo at BookScanning.com is having a special ~ $77.00 per book to scan it into a digital format (with OCR and everything) ~ if you are having 10 or more books scanned at once! Let’s just assume you are…

Total Per Book To Go From Paper To Editable Digital Content: $172.00 (or $77 when Timo runs a special)

Realistically, there’s also the dollar value you should attach to the time it would take you to perform the proper niche market research to make sure that you have a worthwhile topic, and the time invested in tracking down the book to begin with.

In comparison, by leveraging Best Public Domain Books, you have the ability to let my team do all of the hard work and absorb the lion’s share of the expense…

You pay just $15.00 per title and have the freedom to buy only the content you need, as you need it.

As you can see, the cost and time savings made possible by leveraging Best Public Domain Books is significant.

7. Can I take these books and simply resell them as is with no modification?

==============================

There is certainly nothing stopping you from doing so however, I strongly discourage it. What I am providing here is editable scans of public domain books. These are ready-to-edit books, not necessarily instant products. It is my strong opinion that the best way to use this content is to re-purpose it and use it as the foundation for all new, unique products. I am providing the foundational content, you need to provide the creativity and elbow-grease to craft something new and wonderful that you can claim as your own. Your own unique products is where the money is at in the online content game.
