FOREWORD:

“The medical profession, throughout time, has made discoveries and strides of progress that have literally altered the courses of whole civilizations. Remarkable as this might seem, it is, perhaps, even more remarkable to know that the medical profession has scored its most startling and significant breakthroughs just within the last 100 years or so.

The veritable parade of monumental discoveries and de-velopments in the health fields was made possible largely through an impetus found only in the atmosphere of free and private enterprise, and it is really this that has provided our present day civilization with the finest fruits of a Golden Age of Medicine.

Certainly not the least important of medical science’s more recent contributions is the gift of longevity. Medical researchers, to now, have already discovered many of nature’s secrets of life, and these findings have enabled us to prolong our days on earth in active, good health.

A child who is born today can expect to live seven years longer than one” born just 20 years ago; and a person who is 70 years of age today has already lived twice as long as the average American at the time of our Revolution, for the life expectancy at that time was only 35 years! And this, many medical authorities believe, represents our scratching only at the surface of the problem.

Clement Martin, a doctor of medicine and an author, is one authority who believes just that. Writing in clear, entertaining, and understandable language in “How To Live To Be 100,” he sees no reason why human beings should not, even on the basis of medical data we possess today, live to attain five score or more years of life. His book is a practical treatise on how to do this.

“How To Live To Be 100″ is an optimistic book when examined by the cold stare of the questioning scientist. Nevertheless it emphasizes the proper areas and approach to keeping healthy and fit—nutrition, periodic medical care, dental services, choice of satisfying work endeavor, healthy play and recreation, rest, exercise, and relaxation. And it emphasizes what the American medical profession has long maintained—that the well-being of a person just as the quality of medicine itself, is the responsibility not of a community or a government agency but of each individual himself. Ths point is well worth remembering.

Author Martin cannot guarantee that his readers will actually live to be 100; only that you should live longer, healthier, and more enjoyably if you follow his advice.”
